Louise Poissant (PhD, Philosophy) has served as the Scientific Director of Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC) since 2015. Prior to this position, she was Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM). From 1989 to 2006, Dr. Poissant was professor of aesthetics at the École des arts visuels et médiatiques at UQAM where she led the Groupe de recherche en arts médiatiques. From 2001 to 2006, she led the Centre interuniversitaire des arts médiatiques, the CIAM which included researchers from Concordia University, the University of Montreal, McGill University, and UQAM. In 2006, CIAM merged with, and became known as, Hexagram.
Dr. Poissant is the author of numerous books and articles in the field of media arts published in various journals in Canada, France, Brazil and the United States. Among other achievements, she edited and supervised the redaction and the translation of the Dictionary of the Media Arts published by PUQ in French, and by sections in English, by the Journal Leonardo, MIT Press. She co-edited a series of 13 documentaries on Media Arts in collaboration with TV Ontario and TÉLUQ and co-directed a series of 15 video portraits of artists with the Museum art contemporain de Montréal. She has curated 15 exhibitions on the field of media arts and has organized more than 30 conferences and congresses. Her latest research focuses on new technologies in the field of performing arts and on bio-art.
