James Marchbank is the former CEO of Science North in Sudbury.

Mr. Marchbank was CEO of Science North for 25 years, leading the organization through many expansions that established it as the second-largest science centre in Canada and one of the world’s best. During his tenure, Science North added the F. Jean MacLeod Butterfly Gallery, an IMAX® theatre, and Science North also began the production and distribution of IMAX® films.

Mr. Marchbank began his career in 1972 as a TV Reporter and News Director at CKSO Television in Sudbury. After working there for five years, he moved on to public affairs in municipal government and later to the office of the official Opposition in Ontario for a year. Mr. Marchbank has also served the City of Sudbury as Councillor and Alderman from 1985 to 1991.

Mr. Marchbank has earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Association of Science Centres and he was recognized by Science North with a lifetime membership and the development of the Marchbank Innovation Fund, which encourages the continuous learning and development of staff. He is also an active volunteer, serving as Chair of the Northern Cancer Foundation and as a board member of TVO and the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership.
