Emily Black is an Associate Professor at the College of Pharmacy at Dalhousie University, an Affiliated Scientist at IWK Health and Nova Scotia Health, and an Associate Scientist with the Maritime SPOR Support Unit. Dr. Black’s primary research interests include antimicrobial stewardship, pharmacy practice, and pharmacy education. Her current research focuses on evaluating antimicrobial use in Nova Scotia and identifying targets for quality improvement. Another area of interest involves development and evaluation of teaching and assessment tools in pharmacy education. Dr. Black also has a cross appointment with IWK Health where she provides clinical pharmacy services to patients in the pediatric emergency department.

Dr. Black has received multiple awards for her work including the Dalhousie Faculty of Health Early Career Research Excellence Award (April 2022), the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) Program Preceptor Award (July 2013), and the Merck Frosst Pharmacy Doctoral Prize (May 2011).
